How did you discover overlanding?
Much like a lot of new comers, I jumped on the overland bandwagon as popularity started to grow. I wanted to explore the outdoors far beyond the pull in camp spots and over populated tourist sites. I initially started with a 2001 Chevy Silverado and quickly came to the realization that if I wanted to get to the hard to reach places I needed a serious rig. Sold my Silverado and Camaro and purchased a 2009 4Runner Limited with the 4.7 V8. It didn’t take me long before I was knee deep into bumpers, rack, suspension with wheels and tire, and a custom pull out camp kitchen. I had plan to stay with this setup but then the Rivian R1T presented itself and I could not pass up the opportunity. Although I still have the 4Runner, I’ve never really looked back.

What is your favorite piece of overlanding gear you have?
Honestly, the truck is my favorite overlanding gear. It’s what I spent most of my time in and it’s what I most rely on while wheeling. It’s capabilities and leaps and bounds over anything that I have owned before, and it’s short comings add a unique opportunity to grow.

Why do you overland?
Simply put, the urge to escape to the outdoors was strong. There is so much out there that needed my exploration, and it wasn’t going to get done just by dreaming it. I also wanted my sons to be exposed to it now, in their early age, so that they can appreciate our time together and the outdoors when they become men. For myself, I enjoy living in the moment and creating stories to share with others to inspire.
